I met a pug named Marley last week. He was a happy guy, with that fantastic, lolling, curly-edged tongue characteristic of his breed. As I scratched his chest, he leaned against me, looking skyward, tongue still lolling. I scratched his ears, and his tongue bobbed from side to side like a metronome.
It's time to really acknowledge and record all these little delights.
"Happiness is always a by-product. It is probably a matter of temperament, and for anything I know it may be glandular. But it is not something that can be demanded from life, and if you are not happy you had better stop worrying about it and see what treasures you can pluck from your own brand of unhappiness." - Robertson Davies
